Website Recreation
Learning studio 2: Fall 2020 // Exercise 3
High level web development, developing a responsive website, writing semantic markup & understanding HTML hierarchy
Project Overview
I recreated an existing page of a website using the skeleton template and raw html and css. The result is a static webpage that is responsive to multiple screen sizes, and resembles the original FablePets website.
In the images below, you can see my website on the left and the original website on the right. Since creating this website, the page has been updated, so major layout differences are caused by those changes. My full analysis of HTML hierarchy and responsive design can be found in the full documentation link.
Reflection
I find reflections to be the most important of any project. Why was it important to me? How did it help me grow?
This project was my first real encounter with coding. Right out of the gate, I understood HTML/CSS very well and I loved it. Along the way I may have struggled quite a bit- but in the end, it was all worth it.
This exercise in coding didn't make me feel confident as a developer by any means- but it did give me a very strong baseline to start working from. This exercise ignited in me a passion for web development- something I still carry with me today.
The big takeaway: Creating a responsive website is SO important (and not too difficult)!
